finger splint types

If you hurt your finger, maybe you fractured it or the latter of what we call a tendon. If this is the case, then your doctor may provide you with a finger splint. A finger splint is a small brace used to protect and support your injured finger as it heals. It acts as a little protective cocoon over your finger, making certain it is well looked after until it recovers.

If it's only a dislocation or contusion of the finger, you may just need a piece of foam splinting material (or some strips cut from an old bath towel) to make a simple homemade splint. This is the splint that surrounds your finger and Velcros in place so it stays there. For minor injuries, this is a good option as well as it is comfortable and easy to wear.

Different Types of Finger Splints for Different Needs

But if you've got more of a serious injury - like, sayyou broke your finger (that means it's fractured or maybe even dislocated [if the bone pops out its normal spot]) then don't be surprised when they give you this: They are then put in these much more rigid splints that can be metal or plastic. They are made specifically to-suit your figure perfectly so as to promote healing in the proper form. You may need to wear this more robust splint for a few weeks or even months in the case of very severe injuries.

The buddy splint is another kind of splint. This splint is used for a less severe injury only affecting 1 finger. In place of the static finger, which is completely immobile, this buddy splint method consists in taping your injured finger to its neighbour. This helps to protect your injured finger while still allowing it a little room for movement.
